Cleveland: Dead body found in car on westside

CLEVELAND -- Police got the call at 8 a.m  Friday to check a man shot on the 12900 block of Matherson Avenue.

First District officers responded to 12722 Matherson for a man slumped in a black Mercury Sable, parked in the street, still running.

EMS responded as well and pronounced the man dead. The preliminary investigation reveals that a resident heard a gunshot around 2 a.m. but did not call police.

At approximately 8 a.m., another resident saw the victim slumped over in the driver's seat of the vehicle and called police. The victim is black, possibly in his early 20s. he has not yet been identified.

The victim appears to have sustained a gunshot wound to the side of his head.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the final cause of death.
