Akron: Gun scare in high school parking lot leads to arrest

AKRON -- A man was arrested at North High School in the 900 block of Gorge Blvd. after students alerted a school resource officer that he man was in the parking lot with a gun.

When the school resource officer investigated the situation around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, he reportedly saw a man in the parking lot arguing with several students. As he approached, the resource officer ordered the male to show his hands. Instead, the male walked away and around an SUV in the lot.

According to Akron Police, the resource officer saw the male pull a gun from his waistband, which struck a guardrail in the parking lot when he threw it.

The male, identified as Travaski Jackson, 22, of Akron, was arrested and charged with illegal conveyance of an object indistinguishable from a firearm into a school safety zone, facsimile firearm, inducing panic, criminal trespassing and tampering with evidence.

He has been booked into the Summit County Jail.

The gun, a Colt defender air gun, was recovered.
