AKRON -- When officers tried to stop a driver for reckless operation, a chase ensued early Sunday morning landing one man behind bars.
According to Akron Police, the driver inside the 2001 Land Rover refused to pull over around 3:30 a.m. near East Avenue and Vernon Odom Boulevard.
Instead, police say the driver ran several stop signs before going off the roadway near Campbell and Lane streets.
Police say the driver then put the vehicle in reverse and struck the passenger side of a cruiser.
When the vehicle became disabled at the end of Scheck Street, the driver, identified as Lexington Jacobs, 18, of Akron, fled on foot.
He was apprehended a short time later in the 1000 block of Taylor Street.
Police say they recovered two grams of crack/cocaine in his pockets.
Jacobs has been charged with assault on a police officer, possession of crack/cocaine, obstructing official business and failure to comply with police orders.
He has been booked into the Summit County Jail.
No officers were hurt.
