PORTAGE COUNTY -- Portage County Drug Task Force agents made two arrests last week, both on Wednesday.

According to Sheriff David W. Doak, the first arrest followed a number of complaints indicating that marijuana was being sold by a resident at the Flamingo Motel in Atwater Township.

Task Force member, armed with a search warrantfound several marijuana plants growing at the motel.

In addition, they found drug paraphernalia, supplies used to package marijuana for sale, marijuana pre-packaged for sale, a loaded .22 caliber handgun, and a surveillance system which monitored the activities at room 11.

Michael T. Wise, 44, was jailed and charged with trafficking in marijuana and having a weapon under disability.

He had also been convicted of violations in Summit County Court of Common Pleas in 2011.

Later Wednesday, the task force arrested and booked into the Portage County Jail Charles W. Stehney, 43, of Kent, for obstructing official business, trafficking in marijuana, aggravated possession of methamphetamine.

Doak said the task force was called by Kent City Police Department who responded to a reported domestic disturbance at 527 North Willow in Kent.

While investigating the domestic complaint, the officer identified a strong odor he detected as that of marijuana coming from the residence.

Task Force members, along with officers from the Kent Police Department, secured the residence awaiting the issuance of a court ordered search warrant.

While waiting for the issuance of the search warrant, the homeowner, Charles Stehney, arrived at the residence and disobeyed the officer's order to not enter the residence.

Stehney ran from the officers entering the residence and was eventually taken into custody.

Task force members received the search warrant and found drug paraphernalia, marijuana, methamphetamine, and suspected LSD.

Stehney has a previous conviction in federal court in the Northern District of Ohio for cultivation of marijuana.
