Sheriff: Deputies catch man after 2.5-mile foot chase

GREEN -- Deputies catch a man redhanded who is accused of breaking into six cars on two days.

About 7:30 a.m. Saturday, the Summit County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the City of Green regarding thefts from vehicles.

At least six vehicles had been broken into over the past two days.

When the deputy arrived, he noticed a man carrying a black backpack near the woods on Koons Road.

When the man was confronted by the deputy, he ran off into the woods. The deputy chased him while other deputies set up a perimeter.

The man was caught after a 2.5-mile foot chase.

Deputies say he is Timothy Hicks Jr., 28, of Struthers, Ohio.

Hicks was in possession of stolen property from the vehicle thefts. He was charged with theft and obstructing official business.

He was taken to the Summit County Jail where it was learned Hicks was absent without leave (AWOL) from the RIP Program at the Oriana House.

Hicks is also a suspect in numerous burglaries in the City of Green. Future charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
