CLEVELAND -- Thirteen Cleveland firefighters made a court appearance this morning in connection with a payroll investigation.
The 13 face charges of theft in office and receiving improper compensation.
Eleven of the 13 pleaded not guilty to charges. The judge set bond at $5,000 in each of those cases.
Two of the cases were continued.
The charges stem from an audit done on the department's payroll in 2011 into various activities including shift trades.
All 13 are currently suspended without pay from the department.
