Judge removes himself from county corruption case

CLEVELAND -- With no explanation late Wednesday, U.S, District Court Judge James Gwin removed himself from hearing the Cuyahoga County corruption case here involving Jimmy Dimora and Michael Forlani.

Gwin had been assigned the case here in Cleveland.

Dimora, who is already facing trial starting Jan. 4 in Akron before U.S. District Judge Sara Lioi, and Forlani, the former president of Doan Pyramid, were indicted on bribery and corruption charges Oct. 21 and both have pleaded not guilty.

Gwin had scheduled the Dimora-Forlani trial to begin Dec. 12.

The case has now been assigned to Lioi. No hearing dates have been scheduled in her court yet.
