Cuyahoga corruption: Three sentenced in probe

CLEVELAND -- Two former Maple Heights School District officials and the owner of a landscaping company were sentenced Monday in connection with the Cuyahoga County corruption proble.

Steven Canepa, who pleaded guilty Oct. 1 to mail fraud and theft, was sentenced to a year in prison and Giacinto Vaccarella, who pleaded guilty July 1 to bribery and theft, received an 18-month sentence.

Canepa was charged for activity while he was employed by Maple Heights schools as their business manager but Canepa most recently worked for the West Geauga school district in a similar capacity.

Vaccarella was the former director of building and grounds for the Maple Heights schools.

Ken Kushmider, owner of Landscape Design Associates, pleaded guilty July 2 and was sentenced to home detention for paying a bribe to a Maple Heights schools official.
