DENVER -- Legislation banning firearm possession by Colorado residents thought to be a risk for violence will be introduced in the coming days in what's expected to be the latest fight over gun control.

The bill sponsored by Democratic Rep. Beth McCann would allow psychologists, nurses, family therapists and counselors to ask that a person's name be entered into the national background check system.

The people whose names are entered in the database would be prohibited from possessing a firearm for a year. People can petition a court to reserve the order. McCann says she's filing her bill Friday.

The NRA argues the bill is the "most unconstitutional" of the Colorado session. Limits on ammunition magazines and required background checks on all gun sales have been signed into law in Colorado.
