AKRON -- On a rainy afternoon at the University of Akron, the climate is about to change inside Buchtel Hall.
We caught outgoing university President Luis Proenza standing next to Jim Tressel, the vice president of strategic engagement for the university. Proenza announced he will step down as president next June.
"Fifteen years is a good solid record and it's twice the national average, if not more, so it's a good time to turn the reigns over to new leadership," Proenza said.
And the rumors are flying on campus of who the next president could be. Former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel is the name that is the talk with students.
Senior Matt Lumpp says Tressel would be the perfect choice.
"It would be a good move for the university, someone to get our name out there and increase the population on Akron's campus as well," Lumpp said.
The Board of Trustees will meet in September to begin their search for the new president.
