MEDINA TOWNSHIP -- A woman was seriously hurt Wednesday afternoon when the SUV she was driving plunged down an embankment on Interstate 71.
Tracie Layne, 42, of Brunswick was northbound on 71 in a Dodge Durango when she swerved to avoid debris in the road, according to the Medina Post of the State Highway Patrol.
She traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a median cable and traveled down an embankment before coming to rest in a ravine.
She was taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Layne was still being evaluated at the hospital Wednesday night, so her condition was not available.
Layne was not wearing a seat belt, and her airbag did not deploy, according to the patrol.
Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.Interstate 71 was closed for about 50 minutes.
The Medina Township Fire Department, city of Medina life-support team, Granger Township Fire Department, Montville Township Police Department and Medina Township Police Department assisted at the scene.
