JEFFERSON, Ohio -- A northeast Ohio woman has been sentenced to nine years in prison in a failed plot to hire a friend for $4,000 to kill her late husband's first wife.

Prosecutors say she paid a man in a plot that fizzled when the man told the story to the sheriff after collecting and spending the money.

Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court Judge Ronald Vettel sentenced Angel Brown, of Dorset Township, on Tuesday.

The Star-Beacon (http://bit.ly/1bGXGXa ) reports Brown sobbed in court while pleading for probation.

In August, a jury had convicted her of two counts of conspiracy to commit aggravated murder.
