SPRINGFIELD -- Police in Springfield were able to save a teenage girl before she was taken away by an armed man this morning.

For a short time this morning, an Amber Alert went out for a 14-year old female who apparently got into an SUV with a 43-year old man.

Authorities say they knew each other. The teen's mother said her daughter left a letter saying she wanted to be with the man because they were in love.

Police spotted the SUV but the driver, 43-year old Mark Edwards, became agitated when he was pulled over.

The teen was inside the SUV. Deputies said she actually tried to hide from them as they approached the vehicle and that she acted "annoyed" when she was discovered.

Deputies said there was camping equipment, a box of condoms and a cooler full of food in the vehicle. In addition, there were guns and other weapons. They believe the two planned to hide for several days as authorities searched for them.

It's believed the girl's mother had found out about their relationship and tried to stop it.

Edwards is being charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. More charges could be coming.

Police say the teenage girl could also face charges.

The girl's mother had this to say to the man this afternoon:
"Go to hell. You will burn in hell. God will-- I can't do anything to you, but my god is revengeful, and he'll take care of it."
