CLEVELAND -- 5... 4... 3... 2... 1!!! Happy New Year!
Forget spending big bucks on a trek to New York City to watch the ball drop in Times Square.
Although New Year's Eve is still more than three months away, a big celebration is being planned right now for downtown Cleveland.
The Ohio Homecoming Group unveiled details about the upcoming Cleveland Rocks New Year's Eve Celebration, which will be held at Public Square on Dec. 31.
The group says the event will ring in 2014 with a "spirit of hometown pride."
"When we were brainstorming our next big idea to engage and impact Clevelanders, we thought about the big New Years events in other markets and were shocked that no one had attempted this type of event in Cleveland since 1999," says Alonzo Mitchell, the group's managing partner. "We're thrilled to pioneer this celebration with the support of the city, county and our partners to bring something fresh and exciting to downtown that will help keep people in Cleveland on New Year's."
Cleveland Rocks New Year's Eve Celebration will feature live entertainment, special guests, fireworks, ice sculptors and various of local food trucks.
The event is free to the public.
The Ohio Homecoming Group was created in 2010 with a goal to bring awareness to all the positive things that Ohio has to offer.
