For the past 25 years Great Lakes Brewing Company has put Cleveland on the map one beer at a time.
The idea for the craft brewery came about from two brothers, Patrick and Daniel Conway, who could have never imagined the company's present success.
"We're totally ecstatic because not only have we been considered one of the finest breweries in all the U.S., these wonderful fans have descended on the brewery and we're just glowing with all the compliments we've received," said Patrick during the company's 25th anniversary block party Friday.
During their first year of business, Great Lakes Brewing Company produced nearly 1,000 barrels of beer; now the company produces nearly 130,000 barrels annually.
"We thought as the brewery keeps expanding why don't we become the preeminent brewery in the Great Lakes region...here we are 25 years later and I think we're close to that," Patrick continued.
The brewery's rapid growth has also attracted new businesses to the Ohio City area.
From bars, restaurants, even retail shops the near west side community has undergone a facelift.
"We're ecstatic for them honestly we've only been around 2 years and they've been around 25," exclaimed Michael Foran, part owner of nearby Bar Cento.
"I think that Great Lakes is a great Ohio Cleveland staple and I think it's important to support local companies and breweries," said Katy Kosman who works at neighboring Koffie Café.
