Local waterways are receding after last week's storms but the flooding has left behind areas of standing water that are prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Combine the water with the hot weather and you have a recipe for a mosquito explosion. In fact, officials say they are preparing for a very large hatch in the next few days to a week.
Health officials say, however, this new batch of mosquitoes are of the nuisance variety and not carrying disease.
The health department plans to increase spraying in hard hit areas and recommends those going outside to use insect repellant.
