MANSFIELD, Ohio -- The primary suspect in a Richland County bank robbery Wednesday morning was arrested later that day.
The robbery occured at 10:06 a.m. at the Richland Bank on N. Trimble Road, between Walker Lake and Springmill roads.
Employees said the man went into the bank in a white hoodie, pulled out a small black handgun and demanded money. He then left the bank on foot with the money. It is unclear how much cash he managed to get away with.
The Richland County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit was brought to the scene. After a witness told officials which way the suspect went, the K-9 unit was able to track the suspect to a home in the 800 block of Fairfax Avenue.
Residents there allowed deputies and Mansfield Major Crimes Detectives to search the home, where they found the suspect's clothing in the ceiling.
The FBI's Mansfield Field Office joined the investigation, helping authorities identify the primary suspect as Anthony Windbigler, 30, of Mansfield.
An arrest warrant was issued and authorities converged on his home in the 300 block of Orange Street. Once there, Windbigler tried to run from authorities. The Richland County K-9 Unit apprehended and arrested him.
Windbigler was taken to Richland County Jail, where he is being held until an initial court appearance is set.
Anyone with additional information that can help investigators is asked to call Major Crimes Detective Duane Kilgore at (419) 774-5610.
