LAS VEGAS - Firefighters have lost ground to two large Nevada wildfires burning through parched pine forests in the Las Vegas and Reno areas, including a blaze that has forced more than 500 people out of hamlets on Mount Charleston.

Officials reported Monday that more than 750 firefighters are battling the Carpenter 1 Fire, which rose to top priority nationwide while crews in Arizona near containment on a deadly blaze that killed 19 firefighters on June 30.

No injuries are reported and no structures have burned in the nearly 24-square-mile Mount Charleston fire, but homes in Trout, Kyle and Lee canyons are evacuated.

In northern Nevada, the size estimate of the Bison fire in the Pine Nut Mountains has increased to more than 19 square miles.

Both fires are about 15 percent contained.
