  • BATH TOWNSHIP --  Bath Township police are telling residents about a black bear that has been spotted in the area.

On their Twitter account (@BathPD), police  say the bear has been spotted twice in the area of Ghent Hills and Rambling Way Drive.

The police also tweeted out a picture showing the bear running west along Bath Road.

A couple who lives in Bath also sent WKYC several photos showing the bear meandering around their backyard.  The couple says the bear walked across a small bridge and up the stairs onto their patio early this morning.

Police caution Bath Township residents to be mindful of the bear sightings while their small pets are outside.

Experts urge people to keep their distance from the bears as they are normally afraid of humans.  But the bears may turn aggressive if they are cornered.

There have been a number of black bear sightings in recent days.  Black bear sightings are not unusual in Ohio.  The animals are protected by state law and are considered an endangered species.
