CLEVELAND --The family of a special needs student says she was left out of her school's Kindergarten graduation ceremony.
Seven-year-old Kealani has mild autism and goes to Clara Westropp School. Last Tuesday, there was a graduation ceremony for Kindergarten classes, but Kealani's class was not part of it.
"I don't want her to feel that she isn't important," says her mother, Sarah Spino.
The district says a class party, complete with pizza and caps and gowns, was held for Kealani's class, but her family says they were not aware of it.
The principal has sent a formal apology letter to the family. The letter assures them that no child should ever feel excluded, and it will not happen again.
