CLEVELAND -- Thousands of runners will take to Cleveland streets this weekend in the annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon. Security is top of mind, following the bombings at the Boston Marathon last month.

More than 18,000 runners are expected, with a total crowd of 40,000 anticipated along more than 26 miles of Cleveland streets.

Cuyahoga County Sheriff Frank Bova says this year, they will have a new "impact unit" in the crowd. That unit is made up of 12 deputies who are ready for a large-scale emergency response.

There are security sweeps of the route, several law enforcement agencies on the streets, and officers even monitoring city surveillance cameras. Bova is confident this will be the safest marathon in Cleveland's history.

"I highly encourage any visitors to the race if they see something say something," says Bova.
