AKRON -- For more than five hours, police say a man held his girlfriend against her will early Sunday morning.
Now, police are asking for the public's help in locating him.
According to Akron Police, 36-year-old Jerome Allen Johnson followed his girlfriend around 4:30 a.m. and forced his way into her West Market Street apartment.
Once inside, police say Johnson slapped, choked and shoved her into the wall.
The woman was able to break free, ran from the apartment, pulled a fire alarm and banged on a neighbor's door for help.
Johnson reportedly fled the apartment building before police arrived.
The victim suffered minor injuries.
