COLUMBUS -- The State of Ohio Parole Board has released the results for Tony R. Smith's parole hearing.

With a majority vote, the board denied parole and decided that Smith's sentence would continue for the next 10 years. Smith will not be eligible for parole again until February 2023.

On April 3, 1998, Smith, 23, confessed and pleaded guilty to murdering Lilius "Friggy" Landrum, 43, of Akron.

Smith did so by decapitating her and placing her head in a bucket in his basement and her body behind a furnace.

Landrum's family said more than 3,500 people from around the world signed the online petition requesting that parole be denied. They said countless others wrote letters to the parole board, objecting to his release, including Summit County Prosecutor Sherry Bevan Walsh.

The family of Lilius "Friggy" Landrum would like to thank the public, the crime scene investigators, law enforcement agents and media outlets for their help and support in seeing that the family's wishes were respected and that parole was denied for Tony R. Smith.

The family says they feel that justice has been done.
