BENTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A semi truck crash in Benton Township Thursday afternoon closed State Route 2 for more than three hours, highway patrol said.

Truck driver Justin Neal, 26, of Clarkston, Michigan, admitted to being distracted by his cell phone while headed east on S.R. 2 near S.R. 590, when he drifted off the right side of the road. The truck went entirely into the ditch on the north side of the road before Neal got the truck back onto the road.

The trailer then started sliding, as the truck crossed the center line and flipped onto its right side with the cab landing in the south ditch and the trailer completely blocking both lanes of S.R. 2.

Neal was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was not involved. He suffered cuts to his hand, but was treated and released at the crash scene.

S.R. 2 was shut down for three and a half hours.

The trailer was carrying 16,000 pounds of headlights. It's not clear how much damage was done to that load.
