JACKSON TWP. -- A 31-year-old man is in custody for allegedly making "threats of violence" to Summit County Clerk of Courts Daniel Horrigan.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office says Jeffrey Hatfield Jr. was arrested Tuesday after their investigation revealed he made "several threats" over the phone to Horrigan.

When confronted by law enforcement, authorities say Hatfield admitted to the threats and stated his intention to carry out the threat of assault against Horrigan.

A warrant was issued for Hatfield's arrest for intimidation of a public official, which is a third-degree felony.

He was located at his residence in Jackson Township where authorities say he resisted law enforcement and tried to gain access to a firearm.

Hatfield was taken into custody and booked in the Stark County Jail.

He has also been charged by Jackson Township Police for assault on a peace officer and obstructing official business.
