With the help of Channel 3 News Investigator Tom Meyer, the state of Ohio is hand-delivering large amounts of cash to folks across the state.

The Director of the Ohio Department of Commerce paid a visit to Rosie Maxsym, of Parma, and presented her with a check for $75,845.

It may seem like an early Christmas gift, but the money she received is a life insurance policy her stepfather left to her ailing mother, who's now in a local nursing home.

"It's great. It's great. I really don't know what to say except it's a dream come true," said Maxsym, who says the money will give her the ability to bring her mother home for the holidays and provide and care for her.

A state database shows $73 million in benefits never claimed by beneficiaries either because they forgot about the policies, didn't know they existed, or were never told about them by the insurance companies.

The state has processed 13,000 claims worth $7 million. There's more than $1 billion still to claim.l

"This really came about because of your hard work," said Director Goodman, referring to the Investigator's attempts to reunite Ohioans with their money.

If you think you are owed money from an unclaimed life insurance policy, you can go to the Ohio Department of Commerce website and go to online treasure hunt'

You can also enter your name into the state database we've attached to this story to see if there's any money for you to claim.

To use the database (located above and to the left of the article) put in a name to search.  Click on the blue link in the search results to find out more details about a particular claim.
