    Date Specific Volunteer Opportunities 

    Restore Native Habitat

    Cuyahoga Valley National Park needs volunteers to help remove invasive shrubs, such as honeysuckle and autumn olive, using hand tools (loppers and saws) and to pile the cut vegetation. Ages 10 and up with parent or guardian supervision. Ages 16 and up with a parent or guardian-signed Volunteer Agreement. Cuyahoga Valley Nat'l Park locations will be posted 3 weeks in advance.  July 27, 10am-12pm, Aug 8, 1-4pm and Aug 24 10am-12pm.


    Books to Needy Kids

    Cleveland Kids in Need Resource Center needs volunteers to distribute new books to program leaders and teachers of low-income children. Much of the help is physical labor, such as lifting, carrying, and sorting boxes of books. Less physical tasks include labeling boxes and assisting First Book volunteers. Shifts: July 24, 9am-1pm and/or 12-4pm and July 26 9am-1pm. Volunteers should be 15 years or older and wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing.


    The Senior Games

    The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is looking for dedicated individuals who will volunteer for the 2013 National Senior Games to assist with ensuring successful events. Be a part of an event that will be the largest participatory sporting event in the United States in 2013 and is expected to bring $35 million dollars of economic impact to the Greater Cleveland area. The 2013 Summer National Senior Games presented by Humana will host 14,000 athletes 50 years of age and older who will compete in 19 different sports. Many opportunities form check-in to every aspect of assisting with each sporting event. The event will take place July 19-August 1, 2013, 7am-7pm. There will be a training session our volunteers will be required to attend about a month out from the event.



    Be the Match, an East side nonprofit that matches patients with marrow donors, educates health care professionals and conducts research is looking for volunteers for its Over the Edge repelling fundraising event July 27th, 9am-4pm. Volunteers are needed for registration, food stations, kid's crafts, and giving directions.


    UCP at Cleveland Triathlon

    United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland, a nonprofit that advances the independence and productivity of people with Cerebral Palsy is in need of volunteers for the Cleveland Triathlon on Aug 4 in Downtown Cleveland's North Coast Harbor. Pre-race activities include goody bag stuffing, Aug 2nd after 5pm, packet/t-shirt hand out Aug 3rd from 9am-5pm, and on race day, Aug 4th, 3am-3pm, race number marking, water stations, security in transition area and help at the finish line and with youth race. Volunteer athletes are also needed to fill-in legs of the race for family relay teams by swimming, biking or running. Training provided one evening the week of July 29-Aug 2nd.

    Concert Help

    The Ohio Veterans' Memorial Park In Clinton (south of Akron) is in need of volunteers during their Rock and Remember concert, August 3rd, to honor veterans and those currently in the armed forces.  Duties include: help with parking, emptying trash containers, manning entrance gate, refreshment stands, help with crowd control, set up and tear down.  Will work with your schedule in shifts between 1:30-10pm.  Enjoy the concert before or after your shift.


    Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities


    Hunger Center Help

    Centers for Families and Children are in need of volunteers to stock, bag, and hand out non-perishable food and to greet all who enter the centers. Near west side locations are especially in need of help. Hours are 10:00am - 2:00pm Monday-Friday.


    Farmers Market

    Lake Metroparks is seeking volunteers for their Willowick farmers market that runs every Wednesday through Oct 16, 2013. Be a part of this career building opportunity Wednesdays only from 1:30-7pm. Must be able to lift 30 lbs., work with the general public and make change.


    Web Master

    St. Vincent De Paul Society needs volunteer experienced web designer 2-4 hours per month to enhance existing web with new features. Teach our web person to do special features.


    Classroom Business Role Model

    Help teach students about economics, financial literacy and work readiness skills. Volunteer role models are needed in the classroom or after school to help students understand how business works.  Must be 18 or older. There is an orientation and training for the different lessons that will be implemented. Volunteers must also provide their own transportation.


    Outpatient Transportation

    Summa Akron City Hospital is looking for volunteers to transport outpatients and guests throughout the hospital, assist with stocking wheelchair depot locations and sanitizing wheelchairs. Individuals must be friendly and helpful to guests and be willing to learn campus layout and how to operate a pager.  M-F 8am-12pm and 12-4pm. Background check, orientation and training required. 18 & over.

    English as a Second Language Teacher

    The Centers for Families and children, on Cleveland's west side, is in need of volunteers to help adult English language learners gain the skills they need to excel in their English abilities enabling them to enter the workforce to support themselves and their families.  Candidates must possess strong interest in working with diverse cultures, ability to work independently with good oral and written communication skills. Experience teaching and/or foreign language experience a plus.  Each session is 10 weeks and classes are from 6:30-9:00pm on Monday and Wednesday evenings.


    Office Assistant

    University Settlement, an organization that provides innovative, valued, and collaborative services to individuals and families in the Broadway/Slavic Village community is in need of a volunteer team support member. Duties include: greet and direct all visitors, answer the phone and direct calls, answer general questions from visitors or callers, assist with basic clerical needs (making copies, sending facsimiles, preparing mail, etc.), and become involved in occasional special projects. Two to four hour shifts between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm, M-F. No experience necessary!
