CLEVELAND -- In less than three weeks, voters will weigh in on Issue 107 -- the 15-mill levy on the ballot for Cleveland Schools.

The most recent state report card puts the school district in "Academic Emergency" but it's not all bad news.

Channel 3's Kris Pickel takes us to the Whitney M. Young, Gifted and Talented Leadership Academy -- a superstar school by anyone's standards.

By all accounts, the school is a bright spot in the Cleveland School district. You only need to hear the awards that it has won. It's been named one of Ohio's best high schools six times, one of the nation's best high schools four times, it's a National Blue Ribbon school, and has twice been given the rating of "excellence with distinction" on the state school's report card.

And how about the numbers? A 94.8 percent attendance rate that is impressive by anyone's standards and a 95 percent 5-year graduation rate.

The goal here is college and  25 or higher on the ACT test. Lofty goals... So how has this school gotten here?

Some folks will tell you it's the principal.

Karen M. Byron-Johnson has been at the school for six years now and will accept nothing less than the best from and for her students and staff.
