AKRON -- The husband who allegedly shot his wife in a hospital room at Akron General was given a $1 million bond in court Tuesday morning.
John Wise also asked a question of the judge during the proceeding, according to the Channel 3 crew at the arraignment. Wise asked the judge if based on the attempted murder charge, his wife was actually dead. The judge replied that the court would get Wise an attorney for tomorrow.
It is believed Wise shot his wife Barbara as a mercy killing while she lay in the hospital's intensive care unit.
An autopsy has been completed, in which the Summit County Medical's Office says Barbara died by a gunshot wound to the head. They ruled the manner of death a homicide.
Akron police say 66-year-old John Wise entered his wife's hospital room at Akron General Medical Center on Saturday and shot at least one round from a handgun while standing at her bedside. Barbara Wise was declared dead Sunday.
John Wise is under police guard in an undisclosed location.
