PORTAGE COUNTY -- The five fire departments within the Southeast Local School District have partnered to have a spaghetti dinner to benefit the Chardon Healing Fund.

It will be held at Southeast High School, 8423 Tallmadge Road in Diamond, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday March 24.

Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Presale adult tickets for $7 are available from any of the fire departments within the  Southeast School District: Charlestown Township, Deerfield Township, Edinburg Township, Palmyra Township and Paris Township.

On Feb. 27, alleged gunman TJ Lane opened fire on students inside Chardon High School's cafeteria, killing three teens. Lane's case is still in the juvenile court system, but prosecutors are asking he be tried as an adult.

The Portage County Sherriff's Office and Southeast Local Schools are also participating and will be available to answer questions about school safety.

"This spaghetti dinner is not only to raise funds for the Chardon Healing Fund but to also answer questions parents may have about school safety. If we convince one student think twice about their actions, this will be a success. We really hope the entire area not only the Southeast School District residents will support this fundraiser," said Tim Paulus, the Edinburg Township Fire Chief.

Monetary donations are welcome and businesses wishing to donate desserts for the day of the dinner are ask to contact the Edinburg Fire Department at 330-325-1224.
