CLEVELAND -- President Barack Obama has offered condolences to the principal of a school where earlier this week a gunman opened fire, killing three students and wounding two others.

Obama told Chardon High School principal Andy Fetchik he was heartbroken by the news and asked how the principal and school community were holding up.

The Plain Dealer reports that Obama said in the Wednesday afternoon call that he and first lady Michelle Obama are keeping the school in their thoughts and prayers. +

The Geauga County prosecutor says 17-year-old T.J. Lane has admitted firing 10 shots at a group of students in the high school cafeteria in Monday's shootings.
