WILLOUGHBY -- Carmen A. Blakemore was charged with felony burglary and felony grand theft Friday morning. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Sept. 29 in Willoughby Municipal Court.

His bond is set at $100,000.

He is charged with allegedly stealing a 42" Samsung television and a Wii gaming system, valued at $750, from the living room of a first-floor condominium on Shepherd's Glen Drive while the couple was asleep in the bedroom.

Blakemore was taken into custody Thursday afternoon without incident at his mother's Trenton Place apartment in Willoughby, police said.

On Tuesday, Willoughby police officers went to the 5100 block of Shepherd's Glen Drive for a reported burglary.

Officers leaned that the residents were missing a 42" Samsung television and a Wii gaming system. Police saw that someone entered the condo through an unlocked, first-floor window.

The victims told police that at about 11:45 p.m. Monday, they were awakened by their dog growling and noticed a motion detector alarm had activated.

The victims did not investigate at that time, believing that the dog had caused the alarm.

They discovered the burglary the next morning. Police collected physical evidence, including fingerprints, at the crime scene and sent it all to the Lake County Crime Lab.

Police say three additional residential burglaries and one commercial breaking and entering in the immediate vicinity of the Trenton Place Apartments remain under investigation.

These crimes all have occurred within the last three weeks. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Willoughby Detective Bureau at 440-953-4210.
