DORMONT, Pa. -- Actor Ed Asner's publicist says a Facebook page claiming the former "Lou Grant" star is helping a vintage Pittsburgh-area theater raise money for a new digital projection system is a hoax and that the actor doesn't even have his own Facebook page.
Publicist Charles Sherman tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, "Ed has nothing to do with it. We're trying to find out who actually did this."
The page claims Asner will double any donations to the Hollywood Theater in Dormont, a single-screen, independent movie venue that really is trying to raise $75,000 for a digital projection system.
Chad Hunter, executive director of the theater, said he hoped the page was legitimate when he heard about it, and was sorry to learn it was not.
He says, "It's Facebook, so it's kind of hard to take anything at face value."
