Three children and the suspect's girlfriend emerged unharmed.
There were no reports of gunfire or injuries in the standoff in a residential neighborhood in this blue-collar city 30 miles west of Cleveland. The neighborhood was cordoned off by police.
Police Lt. Rich Resendez said officers arrived about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to arrest Jeremy Mack, 26, on a warrant in a Dec. 9 burglary. Neighbors said Mack yelled that he wasn't going to jail.
Resendez said police didn't want to storm the house because of concern for the children ages 4, 5 and 6. Police didn't specify the children's relationship with Mack, but neighbors said they were his sons.
Police evacuated the neighborhood soon after the standoff began, around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Mack served time for a 2000 drug conviction, according to court records. His brother, Jason, also of Lorain, was arrested on the same warrant while walking through the neighborhood during the standoff.
