DNA evidence links Akron man to woman's murder

AKRON -- DNA evidence has linked Tyrone Benford, 41, of Akron, to the death of Lori E. Patch, 53, of Akron.

Detectives have signed a murder warrant on Tyrone Benford.  Tyrone Benford is currently in the Summit County Jail on unrelated charges.

About 11 p.m. Oct. 4, police were called to the 200 block of East South Street. They found a woman on the loading dock of a vacant business with severe head trauma.

She was pronounced dead.  She was later identified as Lori E. Patch, 53, of Akron.

Shortly after Patch was found dead, several other officers responded to the Akron Masjid, at 1147 Old Main Street, for a break-in.

Officers found the front window broken. With the assistance of a K9, officers were able to locate Tyrone Benford in a small bathroom.

Benford was taken into custody and charged with breaking and entering.
