Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak confirmed the attempted suicide of an inmate held at the Portage County Jail.
The inmate, 26, of Ravenna, had been brought to the Portage Jail on Wednesday night about 9:30 p.m. by Ravenna City Police.
He had been arrested on a domestic violence charge.
Thursday at 11 a.m., he was seen lingering by the stairway leading to the second floor housing units. He was seen tying a bed sheet to the railing of the stairwell.
At that time, two inmates ran towards him and were able take hold of him before he dropped.
Responding Corrections Officers were able to bring him down to the ground where medical treatment was immediately started.
He was taken to Robinson Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
