PERKINS TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A woman from China was killed in a motorcycle accident in Erie County Sunday night, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Jerry Vara, 58, of Sandusky, was headed south on a motorcycle around 7:48 p.m. along U.S. 250 with his passenger, Xiaolan "Katie" Chen, 22, from Guangdong, China.

A northbound car driven by Robert Ciocca, 62, of Sandusky tried to turn left onto Parkland Drive in front of the motorcycle, highway patrol said.

Vara and Chen were thrown from the motorcycle. Both were taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center. Chen was then flown to St. Vincent's Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The motorcycle was badly damaged. The car sustained moderate damage.

No information on Ciocca's condition was released. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
