PARMA, Ohio -- Parma Police say a suspicious device that was suspected to be a pipe bomb did not contain explosives.
The device was found hanging in a tree near State and Freehold roads.
Construction crews called police after finding the device this morning. Bomb technicians that responded to the scene told police it appeared to be a pipe bomb.
The item was removed from the location and detonated. That's when police determined it contained trinkets, prizes and clues to a "next location" rather than explosives. Police believe the item may have been used in a geo-caching of scavanger hunt type of game.
Police say they are still actively searching for the person who put the item in the tree and plan to pursue inducing panic charges since the device appeared to be a pipe bomb.
