MINERAL CITY, Ohio -- Potentially tornadic storms ripped through Mineral City Wednesday evening, leaving a path of destruction in Tuscarawas County.

The most high-profile damage occurred when the Mineral City Volunteer Fire Department roof collapsed early in the evening. Officials say the building is destroyed.

Meanwhile, the roof of a neighboring cafe also collapsed with people inside. Incredibly, nobody was injured in either collapse.

The village of about 900 people saw damaging winds rip a mile long path through the city, blowing tops off of trees and damaging homes.

As many as four homes were reported damaged and likely rendered uninhabitable. Those four families were displaced Wednesday evening, but none of them were injured.

While some residents reported witnessing a tornado, these reports have not been confirmed by authorities.

The National Weather Service will be in Mineral City Thursday to survey the damage and make an official determination. With daylight, will also come answers, as a community cleans up and rebuilds.
